READING 8 A1-BASIC The future
The future
In 1988, The LA Times interviewed a group of people called “futurologists” and they made some predictions about the world in 2013. What do you think they said?
They said that we could have satellite navigation! and that we would use teleconferencing and video calls! they didn´t say we would all have mobile phones and they thought that we would have robots to do all our housework at home… They were wrong about that but they were correct about many things.
Technology is very different now. We are connected with everyone in every part of the world. We ca use the computers to talk to people that can be 10,000 km away from our houses and see their faces. We don´t need to go to different countries to close a business deal or visit clients. Now, we can do everything if we have internet.
Companies are saving a lot of money on trips because we can have conference calls from our offices and do business with several people at the same time.
And in our personal life we have a lot of advances, too. We can text messages instead of talking and there are hundreds of applications that help us in our daily life. Can you think about using a map to go to a new place? Now we can have applications with different explanations to get to different places and it doesn´t matter if you are too near or too far.
And you, could you predict about the future in 2045?
